Reveal Cake

This is a gender reveal cake that I did for some church members of ours.  The cake batter was dyed BLUE :)  This is how they chose to reveal the gender to their parents.  Cute, huh?  Hopefully, I will figure out how to get the picture she texted me off my phone and put it on here to show you the actual reveal.

Baby Girl Butterflies

This is a cake I did for my friend, Dana.  She is having a baby shower this weekend and the them is pink / green and butterflies.  So, naturally this is the direction I went with the cake.  The cake is vanilla with rasberry filling and buttercream frosting.  The cake has a very simple look.  There is a baby made from fondant/gumpaste on the top (my new favorite way to top a baby shower cake).  Then, I made just a couple of 3D butterflies to accent the cake.  Hope she likes it.....

Mickey Mouse Baby Shower Cake

The cake

This is a baby shower cake I did for my friend, Amanda.  It was a Mickey Mouse themed shower because that is what she is decorating the baby's nursery with.  The cake needed to be big enough to feed 80 people.  Wow!  So, this is what I came up with.  I was super excited because I had ordered a sleeping baby mold and was eager to use it.  This thing is so cool.  The detail is outstanding.  You see skin folds and wrinkles, little lips and ears, and even strands of hair.

This is a close up of the sleeping baby.  I placed him on a big Mickey Mouse fondant cut out and then covered him with a red fondant blanket.  I need practice painting the hair, but I felt like my coloring was pretty good with the flesh and pink cheeks, etc.

This is the top tier.  It was vanilla cake with a strawberries and creme filling.

This is the middle tier.  It was chocolate with Nutella filling.

This is the bottom tier.  It was vanilla cake with caramel marshmallow filling.

I was unable to actually attend the shower because it fell on Charles' birthday, but I've had positive reviews about how good it tasted and what a hit it was.  That makes me happy.  As long as Amanda was happy, though, is what matters most!

In a Baby Carriage

This is a baby shower cake I did for a co-worker of my friend, Christy.  She wanted chocolate cake and buttercream icing.  She is decorating the nursery in pink and purple so that's the colors I used for the cake.  She insisted on a very simple cake with NO fondant.  I did use edible pearls...one in the center of the bow and one in the center of each decorative dot.  The piping around the bottom is much more froo-froo than I usually do, but I saw a cake that I liked with a similar design but, of course, mine didn't turn out quite the same.  Nonetheless, I hope she likes it!

A Baby Shower Cake and Crickets

Ok...hoping the title got your attention :) This is really two posts in one.
First, I wanted to share a picture of a baby shower cake I did for my friend Dana's sister-in-law. The design and colors were to match her bedding. The bow is not the greatest as I consistently do a not so good job with those. But, I must say, I am happy with the way the initial design came out. The A is for Amelia...pretty name, huh? I like old, feminine names.

Second, I had to share about our day today. This is really the first post I have done about the kids as my blog has taken quite the theme turn. Anyway, today we devoted to fishing. But I must say, the comment heard most often (other than "when am I going to catch a fish?) was "I want to pet it." Pet what? you ask.....the cricket of course! They had to pet each cricket before it was placed on the hook. These girls were too excited over petting the crickets that I had to share a picture of each of them actually holding one. The other pictures are of them fishing. It was a great day....even though NO fish were caught!
